A man was found dead at Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor’s office and Hoboken Police Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. The Regional Medical Examiner's Office has not released its findings regarding the cause and manner of death of this man.
Police tape was blocking off the popular waterfront park Thursday morning, restricting access to the walkway, benches and playground. It was taken down shortly before noon.
Sharon Kelly, who works nearby was among those who walked over to the scene to try and get a better understanding of what happened.
“[There was] yellow tape everywhere over there,” said Kelly. “I continued to look and…. there was a white tent. People were just walking by. Stopping and looking. And we're asking anyone know what happened?”
Neighbors said this residential area is typically very calm and were shocked to see the police presence.
“[It’s] surprising to me especially this part of town,” said Rick Raspolich. “It’s a great place very nice, quiet, especially up town versus downtown. A lot of families. A lot of people walking with strollers and dogs. That’s mostly what it is.”
Some neighbors continue to be on high alert and are anxiously waiting to learn if it is safe to return to the park.
