A New Jersey lawmaker has reintroduced her bill that would allow New Jersey schools to explore extending the length of a school day.
Under state Sen. Shirley Turner’s bill, some school districts would be in a program that tests how longer school days impact students.
“I’ve long believed that we need to bring New Jersey’s education system into the 21st century by extending the school day and school year,” Turner said in a statement. “Our students would fare better academically, and it is more cost effective for parents who must now pay for after school care or require their children to be latchkey when after school care is unaffordable.”
Turner first introduced the bill in 2011.
It was unclear how much longer the school day would be under the new program.
