New Jersey lawmakers are proposing a law that would allow state residents to make donations to cancer research on their tax return forms.

The bill is backed by Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, who is a cancer survivor himself.

Bill A-894 “Provides for voluntary contributions by taxpayers on gross income tax returns for pediatric cancer research.” New Jersey residents would be able to indicate if they wanted to donate a portion of their tax refund or make a special donation.

Bucco was joined in Trenton Wednesday by several childhood cancer survivors, including 10-year-old Grace Eline. Eline was recognized by President Donald Trump during his State of the Union address in February.

“It makes me feel good because I get to represent such an important cause. I think that if I'm here, all my friends can help…it makes me feel really good that I can represent this,” she says.

The donations would go to a newly formed “New Jersey Pediatric Cancer Research Fund.”
