Parents in East Hanover are sounding the alarm ahead of a Board of Education meeting.
They say their biggest concern centers on a plan to move fifth-grade students into the middle school starting in the 2026-27 school year - a shift some families fear could disrupt academics and social stability at a critical point before middle school.
In addition to the fifth-grade move, the district is also proposing adjustments to school configurations that some argue could impact class sizes and logistics and potential administrative changes, including possible shifts in school leadership roles.
Supporters of the plan say the move is part of broader district planning and may help address space and curriculum alignment issues. Others argue that the Board of Education has not done enough to address potential classroom overcrowding, transportation challenges or the emotional strain on students and families.
The meeting is expected to draw tons of parents who are hoping to make their voices heard before any final decisions are made.
