New Jersey residents and businesses hit hard by April's nor'easter will now have help cleaning up the aftermath.
President Bush has given New Jersey a federal disaster declaration to cover the damage incurred from the storm. The funding will be given to residents and businesses in Bergen, Burlington, Essex, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties.
New Milford was one of the hardest hit areas. More than 200 people had to be evacuated during last week?s flood. Many homes have been red-tagged by the town, which means people can?t go back in until the necessary repairs have been made.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says those affected by the flood can apply for help beginning Friday. FEMA officials say assistance can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs.
According to FEMA, assistance is determined on a case by case basis. Residents can apply online with FEMA between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. or by phone.
