Powerful storms tear through New Jersey leaving damage, power outages in their wake

The storms contained wind gusts of up to 60 mph, along with hail and heavy rain.

Powerful thunderstorms passed through New Jersey Wednesday evening, causing widespread damage in their wake.
The storms contained wind gusts of up to 60 mph, along with hail and heavy rain.
There were reports of downed trees across the Garden State. As of 10 p.m. New Jersey Transit rail service was being impacted due to tree damage.
NJ Transit service on the Gladstone Branch was suspended in both directions due to the weather conditions.
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service was suspended in both directions between MLK Drive to Westside Avenue due to downed trees near Westside Avenue. Service was also suspended in both directions between 8th Street and 34th Street due to downed trees near 34th Street.
Travelers were advised to check the NJ Transit website for service information.
The storms also left tens of thousands of people without power. Jersey Central Power & Light was reporting more than 86,000 customers without power as of 10 p.m. PSE&G was reporting nearly 750 customers without power as of 10 p.m.
The stormy weather is expected to last through the overnight hours.
