A downed power line is being blamed for a large power outage that impacted thousands of JCP&L customers in Asbury Park and Neptune Township.

JCP&L spokesperson Chris Hoenig told News 12 that 4,200 customers lost power around 6:45 a.m.

In a post on Facebook, Neptune Township OEM said the outage is "impacting the traffic lights, businesses, and residences in Neptune Township and Ocean Grove, primarily in the area east of the Rt. 33 and Rt. 35 intersection." According to the OEM, due to downed wires and a blown transformer, police have closed Embury Avenue at Memorial Drive.

"All traffic signals are out in the area. NTOEM is assisting with traffic control. Use extra caution driving in the area, report power outages to JCP&L, and report emergencies to 9-1-1," the OEM post said.

Hoenig said crews isolated and repaired the problem by 9 a.m.
