A packed state Senate committee hearing with shouting matches and, at times, pettiness on full display.

The hearing was to advance a bill that critics say Senate President Nick Scutari is trying to ram through – a bill which would strip subpoena and investigatory powers from the office of the comptroller and transfer them to the state commission of investigation.

Opponents like Attorney General Matt Platkin and Sen. Andy Kim say this bill puts insiders first and New Jersey residents last.

Also, President Donald Trump's pick to head the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey suffered a legal defeat this week. A federal appeals court upheld a lower court ruling that disqualified Alina Habba, saying she was unlawfully appointed. Habba is from Summit and the president's former lawyer.
