New Jersey and New York officials gathered in Port Newark to announce a $44 million grant to improve the roadway connecting the marine facility to Elizabeth Port Authority Marine Terminal.
The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve roadway access to Port Newark.
Port Newark is one of the six marine facilities that make up the largest port complex on the East Coast of the United States.
The Port of New York and New Jersey is owned and operated by the Port Authority.
The project will create safer entranceways to the port complex, reduce traffic, improve air quality for surrounding communities and boost the local economy.
