Commuters heading into Manhattan got hit with heavy delays crossing the George Washington Bridge this morning.
According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, a disabled truck with a debris spill on the upper level of the bridge closed all lanes heading eastbound around 6:25 a.m.. The DOT reported extensive delays on the New Jersey side near the toll plaza in Fort Lee. The disabled flatbed truck appeared to be carrying a load of lumber.
At 6:40 a.m., the crossing time on the upper level heading into New York was at least 75 minutes, with about 30 minutes on the lower level due to volume, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which has jurisdiction over the George Washington Bridge.
No word on what caused the debris spill, or if there were any injuries or other vehicles involved.
