Police: University of Delaware student from New Jersey fatally struck by motorcycle

Newark, Delaware police say that Noelia Gomez, of Clark, died from her injuries after she was struck by the vehicle.

An 18-year-old woman from New Jersey died after she was struck by a motorcycle near the University of Delaware campus on Aug. 27.
Newark, Delaware police say that Noelia Gomez, of Clark, died from her injuries after she was struck by the vehicle. Gomez had just started as a freshman at the university.
Police say University of Delaware officers were trying to stop the motorcyclist for a traffic offense, but the rider sped off instead. Gomez was in the crosswalk when she was hit, according to police.
The rider was thrown off the motorcycle, which hit four other people on the sidewalk. Those people were not seriously injured.
The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital for treatment.
No charges have been filed at this time.
