Police in Toms River are searching for suspects after two smash-and-grab burglaries early Tuesday morning. The first was at Breakin Bread Eatery on Fischer Boulevard. Security video shows two thieves breaking into the business.

"They ran in went behind the counter and ransacked the counter space behind there,” says owner Pete Norcia.

Surveillance footage shows one of the thieves throwing what looks like a cinder block through the front door of the restaurant.

The suspects took a cash box first, then came back and managed to carry out a large safe. They took that safe to a car that was parked around the corner on Merrimac Drive.

Norcia says the thieves got away with a few thousand dollars.

He says he doesn’t know why his store was targeted but calls on city officials to help.

"I don’t think under new administration it’s time to be cutting police. I think they should either be adding or leaving it the same,” said Norcia.

The owner of the other business burglarized did not wish to speak with News 12 New Jersey on camera. The owner says their loss was minimal compared to what happened at Breakin Bread.

Police haven’t shared whether or not they have any leads.

Anyone who might have information regarding these crimes is urged to contact Detective Carey at 732-349-0150, ext. 1292.
