Fugitives hiding out in Union County have an opportunity to surrender next month as part of an amnesty program.
The Fugitive Safe Surrender will take place at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark from Nov. 4 to 7. It allows the more than 14,000 people currently violating their paroles in Union County to come forward and surrender, rather than being hunted down by officers.
Police say a safe surrender program brought in more than 2,200 people with outstanding warrants last year. Authorities hope parole violators will take advantage of the program, rather than putting their family, friends and themselves at risk.
