A 16-year-old boy has been accused of stealing a car with a 5-month-old baby inside.
That teen is now facing carjacking, kidnapping and child endangerment charges.
Police say that the baby boy was found in front of an apartment building on the 300 block of Washington Street in Jersey City. They say this was after the mother was carjacked about a mile away.
Jersey City officials say that the teen, whose name was not released due to his age, ordered the mother to get out of her 2023 white Porsche Macan on Montgomery Street. Officials say the teen dropped the baby off in front of the apartment building and then drove to Marin Boulevard
This is where police officers spotted the stolen car but were not able to stop the teen because he was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed.
The teen was eventually caught by the Newark Police Department in Newark. The Porsche was also found there.
Jersey City police say that the baby boy was treated at the hospital for minor scrapes.
