Police in New York City say a man struck his mother with an ax several times in the head, leaving her in critical condition.
According to authorities, the 52-year-old woman was injured Monday at an apartment she shares with her two adult sons near the Coney Island boardwalk.
Police say she was struck in the head several times, and has been hospitalized for treatment.
Authorities say her 32-year-old son turned himself in shortly after the assault.
Police have not released their names.
No charges have been filed.
