Police in Montclair are on the hunt Friday for the man they say shot and killed a mother in front of her children at a YMCA.
Authorities say gunfire erupted in the pool area of the YMCA on Glenridge Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Eyewitnesses say 31-year-old Monica Paul was seen in a heated exchange with the suspect before she was shot three times.
Investigators say the alleged shooter, Kenneth Duckett, 37, was seen fleeing the area with an accomplice in a white Jeep. Police located the abandoned vehicle after the incident.
According to police, the pool was full with children taking swim lessons at the time of the shooting. YMCA staffers were able to safely evacuate the pool area without any other injuries.
Police say Duckett is the father of the victim?s children and he is believed to have a history of domestic violence. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the capture of Duckett. He is considered armed and dangerous.
