Police officers and a firefighter in Bayonne saved a priest who was in cardiac arrest Saturday.
Officials say that the priest was driving on Avenue E around 10:30 a.m. when he lost control and hit several parked cars.
An on-duty firefighter driving saw the crash, stopped and performed CPR.
Firefighter Ed Skelly says the priest was "unresponsive and not breathing."
Two police officers then used a defibrillator on the man before wheeling him into Care Point Bayonne Medical Center across the street.
Police Officer Michal Kucza credits his training for what he says felt like an automatic response.
"It kicked in, you know, there was no thought process to it," Kucza said. "It's just what you got and you go to work."
Officials say the priest is recovering at the hospital and is expected to be OK.
