A Newark police officer suffered minor injuries after an early car chase ended in a crash in Clifton.
Newark police says it all started as an attempted motor vehicle stop, but it led to a chase that covered at least three towns, ending in a crash in Clifton.
When News 12’s Tony Caputo arrived on scene at Clifton Commons Mall just off Kingsland Avenue, a Newark police vehicle was in the bushes, having crashed into a fence.
Police say the driver of the vehicle they tried to pull over on McCarter Highway in Newark refused to do so.
Police say three men were inside. The driver of the vehicle went through Newark’s North Ward and into Belleville.
The pursuit ended after the suspect vehicle crashed through a fence and into a parking lot owned by L3 Harris Technologies.
Police apprehended all three suspects after a brief foot pursuit.
One police officer complained of pain and was transported to University Hospital for evaluation.
