(AP) - A bomb scare on a freight train in northern New Jersey appears to have been a hoax.
North Bergen police say dozens of police officers searched through more than 1,000 packages from the train Friday night, only to find a package with an electronic device, but no bomb.
Police Chief Bill Gavin says the search was sparked by a tip from CSX Transportation that a UPS package on the train from Florida had a pipe bomb onboard.
CSX says it stopped the train in North Bergen because it has a facility there. Four cars were uncoupled for the search before the rest of the train continued on.
Gavin said the woman who mailed the package is in custody in Florida, and that federal authorities are investigating.
