A Somerset County man is facing charges after he was accused of brandishing an AR-15-style rifle at a Wawa employee.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says the incident happened Saturday around 3:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the store located on Route 206 in the Skillman section of Montgomery Township. They say that 27-year-old Joshua Kinney showed the employee the firearm and then drove off.
Police say that two customers said that they heard what sounded like gunshots as Kinney left the parking lot.
Prosecutors say that soon after this incident, police were contacted by concerned family members of Kinney. When police arrived at his home, they say Kinney refused to come out.
The Somerset County SWAT team was eventually called, and Kinney was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m.
Police say they found an AR-15 rifle, a handgun and high-capacity magazines for both weapons in a wooded area near Kinney’s home.
Kinney is now facing several weapons charges.
