Police say a Toms River man is in critical condition after he was struck in the head outside an Ocean County convenience store early Monday.
Authorities say 28-year-old Gerald Brower and a 16-year-old girl fought inside the Wawa on Route 27 and Garfield Avenue about who was first in line. Brower made his purchase and walked to his car, where the teen's 20-year-old friend punched him once in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on a metal car barrier, police say.
Chief Mike Mastronardy says Brower's injuries are severe and he remains on a respirator. Mastronardy says the suspect is expected to turn himself in through his attorney.
