Three people were hospitalized following a shooting on South 17th Street in Newark Wednesday morning.
Newark police told News 12 that the incident took place at approximately 10:11 a.m. on the 600 block of South 17th Street. Police were initially contacted for reports of a man and a woman shot at that location. During the course of their investigation, officers location a third victim on the 400 block of South 17th Street.
"Each victim has been transported to University Hospital for treatment," Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said in a statement. Numerous officers responded to the location and taped off the area in order to secure the scene. Officers could also be seen hanging posters around the neighborhood asking anyone with information on the shooting to provide tips through the city's Crime Stoppers tip line, 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
The two female victims are currently in stable condition at University hospital, Miranda said, while the male victim is in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
