The jobs of firefighters and police officers could be on the line if Passaic can?t close its $1.5 million budget shortfall.
Passaic?s business administrator Anthony Iacono says 14 police and 12 firefighter positions could be cut in a worse-case scenario. Six public works positions could also get the ax.
The layoffs are not definite, and Iacono says they will only be approved by the mayor and council as a last resort. The county expects to know more in the next three to six months.
