A driver crashed a car into a Hawthorne family’s home Thursday afternoon.
The impact of the crash sent the car into the basement of the home along Goffle Hill Road. Two people were trapped and had to be rescued, according to authorities.
Officials say that the driver told firefighters that he thinks that he passed out after undergoing a medical procedure. The passengers in the car are expected to be OK.
"By the luck of somebody, he basically missed the ledge board, which is the frame of the building, which could have decapitated him,” says Hawthorne Fire Chief Joe Speranza. “But he dropped into the basement. He went between two trees on top of it, which is really... somebody watching over."
The family was inside the home when the crash occurred. They were not hurt.
