Police boost patrols at Jersey City park following woman's slaying
Police have increased their presence at a park in Jersey City following the slaying of a woman out jogging last weekend.
Extra officers were seen on patrol in Lincoln Park Saturday. Officials say the some of the law enforcement presence was planned to coincide with warmer weather.
Carolina Cano, 45, was discovered in a lake in the park around 7:30 a.m. last Sunday. Cano was an immigrant from Peru who worked as a live-in nanny.
Her friends say she would stay in Jersey City during the weekend and would go on a jog before attending church services.
The fire department retrieved Cano's body, which was quickly identified. Officials believe she was strangled.
A vigil was held in her honor Friday.
Freeholder William O'Dea is planning a community meeting for Tuesday evening to talk about security in the park. Mayor Steven Fulop is expected to join him.
