Police: Body armor-wearing man possessed AR-15, hollow point bullets

A body armor-wearing Toms River man is facing a variety of charges stemming from a police investigation in Mantoloking, police say.

A body armor-wearing Toms River man is facing a variety of charges stemming from a police investigation in Mantoloking, police say.
According to authorities, 46-year-old Jeremy Barringer was involved in a car crash on the 1200 block of Ocean Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday. He was allegedly wearing body armor and possessed a loaded AR-15 rifle, three high-capacity magazines with hollow point bullets, a loaded 9 mm handgun with additional magazines also loaded with hollow point bullets.

It was unclear why Barringer had the items or if they were legally registered.
Barringer was taken into custody and charged with the unlawful possession of a rifle, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point bullets, possession of high-capacity magazines and possession of a weapon after being a convicted sex offender.
He is being held at the Ocean County Jail. Officials say that additional charges are pending.
