Police triggered an active shooter alarm at Newark Beth Israel Hospital early Sunday morning, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
Hospital security says a retired officer came into the hospital in a rush to see his mother and forgot to put his gun in the security gun locker, which caused security to trigger the active shooter response.
Hillside police officers were in the building for a different matter and responded, along with an armed security officer.
Security says the man turned over his weapon and the issue was quickly resolved.
