A 5-year-old boy is in stable condition after he was stabbed in Newark Monday evening, according to police.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé says that the boy’s mother has been taken into police custody.
“Everybody don’t deserve kids…I’m sorry to hear that,” says neighbor Madialya Koontz.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. at a home on Murray Street near Brunswick Street. The boy was taken to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.
“I’ve seen the kid in the backyard when they do barbeques and stuff,” says one neighbor.
This neighbor, who is a father of four, says that his heart breaks for the child.
“That is very disturbing, very disturbing,” he says.
A motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.
