An Ocean County man has been charged with the murder of his estranged wife after a five-hour standoff with police in the New Egypt section of Plumsted Township Tuesday.
Arthur Haskoor, 56, has been charged with murder and the possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is accused of stabbing his wife Susann Haskoor to death in the driveway of their home.
A camera-equipped robot sent into the home by authorities found Arthur Haskoor unresponsive in the garage. A spokesperson for the Ocean County prosecutor says he was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in critical condition. He supposedly tried to overdose, and remains under guard at the hospital Wednesday.
The standoff had started earlier Tuesday, when police responding to a reported domestic dispute found Susan Haskoor's body in the driveway. She had been stabbed to death.
Authorities then found a note on the front door stating there were guns in the home and that the man inside would kill them.
Roads in the area were closed off, and about 30 students at New Egypt High School across the street were evacuated as a precaution.
