Will the second day of school be the nightmare some Perth Amboy parents say they had on day one trying to drop off their kids?
Many parents protested outside city hall Thursday after the school district decided to cancel courtesy busing for several grades and programs this year.
Student drop off and pickup turned local roads into a parking lot.
Many chanted, “¡Queremos transporte!” which means, “We need transportation!” or “¿Dónde está el dinero? - “Where is the money?"
The district previously provided courtesy busing for all grade levels, but that was removed this year.
Mayor Helmin Caba responded by saying walker safety is a top priority, but he says ultimately, it’s a district decision.
News 12 has reached out to the district repeatedly for comment and has not heard back.
News 12’s Tony Caputo is in Perth Amboy to see how it goes on the second day of school.
