Perth Amboy officials broke ground on Tuesday for the city’s Gateway Redevelopment Project.
Officials say the goal of the project is to clean up contaminated parcels of land between the Route 35 Victory Bridge, Smith Street and Riverside Drive. The land will be turned into a park for city residents, as well as a warehouse.
"It's such an honor, it's a humbling experience to be a part of this, to create and be part of a legacy, a lasting legacy for our city,” says Tashilee Vazquez, executive director of the Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency. "I'm super excited."
City officials expect the Gateway Redevelopment Project to create more than 400 jobs and generate $1 million in local tax revenue.
