Person fatally struck by tractor-trailer near Delaware Water Gap identified as Irvington woman

Police say Valdaishi Simpkins, of Irvington, was outside of her car and stopped on the shoulder when a Volvo tractor-trailer struck and killed her.

According to state police, 27-year-old Valdaishi Simpkins, of Irvington, died Monday.
Authorities say a Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling east on I-80 and entered the right shoulder where Simpkins’ Honda was parked and disabled. They say Simpkins was outside of her car and stopped on the shoulder when the tractor-trailer struck her.
The crash caused backups for miles during the morning rush around 9 a.m. State police and medical crews stayed on scene well into the afternoon.
The crash remains under investigation.
