One person has died after being struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Elizabeth Wednesday, officials said.

The victim, who NJ Transit officials say was a trespasser, was "struck and fatally injured" at the Elizabeth train station at about 5:31 p.m.

North Jersey Coast Line Train 3363 departed New York Penn Station at 5:01 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Bay Head at 7:07 p.m., according to a statement from NJ Transit.

"There were no injuries to the approximately 1,100 customers or the crew aboard the train," NJ Transit said.

Following the incident, two of the four tracks in the area were open for train service. Officials say New Jersey Transit police are continuing to investigate. The name of the victim has not been released.
