Before being taken in by St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, Velma was founding wandering around South Carolina. Now safely in the care of the shelter, she's starting to come out of her shell.
Workers at St. Hubert's describe Velma as being "a gentle soul with a heart full of love." She's shy at first, but she's very friendly once she warms up to people. Extremely relaxed and calm, this 3-year-old pup love pets, snuggles and treats. She can definitely be a couch potato, but she also enjoys leisurely walks outside.
Volunteers say she would thrive in a home where the owners will make her feel safe and cherished. She seems to do well around other dogs as well, according to the shelter.
"Velma only arrived at St. Hubert’s a few days ago, but she’s already winning over the hearts of staff and volunteers," said Diane Ashton, director of media relations for St. Hubert's.
Right now, Velma is getting ready for a Shelter Slumber Pawty at St. Hubert's with her fellow four-legged shelter residents and a group of humans that will spend 24 hours eating, sleeping and "pawty-ing" with the adoptable animals at the shelter. The event will raise funds for St. Hubert's and its adoptable pets.
