Visiting the Paterson Great Falls will soon offer more opportunities for recreation and pleasure.
The city and Great Falls National Historical Park just unveiled their new $7 million Quarry Lawn and Riverwalk project.
The project has transformed and revitalized a former industrial site into a 2 1/2-acre space with walking paths, benches and a lawn area for recreation.
"I'm so excited about that. I plan to invite extended family and having a day, a picnic, even bringing the dogs. It is pet friendly here, we can't wait," said Elizabeth Cahill, who was visiting the falls from New Providence.
The riverwalk isn't open to the public just yet.
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh says the Environmental Protection Agency will be in this week to start removing asbestos from the ruins of an old industrial mill that sits next to the park.
The goal is to have the Riverwalk open in less than a year.
