The Paterson Public School District says it plans to appeal a decision banning the Eastside High School's boys and girls basketball teams from next year's state tournaments.

The State Interscholastic Athletic Association levied unprecedented sanctions against the school in June over recruiting violations.

The sanctions include a 2-year ban from tournaments and a $1,500 fine.

Eastside violated recruiting and eligibility rules and failed to file the proper paperwork for several overseas players.
