The mayor of Passaic is blasting a recent report that named the city one of the most miserable cities in the United States.

Business Insider named Passaic as the fourth most miserable city. It was based on poverty rates, population, commute times and the median household income. There are 70,000 people living in Passaic.

But Mayor Hector Lora says that the data does not reflect the status of Passaic residents.

"Some list written by some authors who have never set foot in the city of Passaic doesn't get to define our community, our progress, our development, our recreation, our families, our youth," Lora says. "Come get to know us. And ask the tough questions. We'll give you the answers and we'll provide you with actual stats so that your article can be just a little more credible when you present these lists."

Other New Jersey towns that made the list include Camden, Newark, New Brunswick, Paterson, Plainfield, Trenton, Union City and West New York.

The study ranked Gary, Indiana as the most miserable city in the country.
