This year marks the 80th anniversary of India's independence from British colonial rule.

The New Jersey Indian American Association hosted a celebration of the country's independence and America's 250th birthday at Smith Field Park.

With plenty of food, singing, dancing and cultural performances, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai, who is also the town's first Indian mayor, said it was an incredibly special celebration.

"We wanted to do both America's 250 and India's 80th because we are here, we are part of the fabric of this country, and we should celebrate both cultures," he said.
