Paramus police are stepping up enforcement against drivers who may be impaired behind the wheel.
The effort started Friday evening, and News 12 New Jersey was allowed to ride along with Paramus Police Officer Brian Linden to see what a typical night is like.
Officer Linden says a special grant will allow more officers to be out on the roads over the next few weeks to target impaired drivers.
"There will be more officers out on the road...that are not obligated to answer other calls," says Linden.
Officers will be out looking for all the tell-tale signs of impaired driving. They will be out through the final weeks of summer. Officer Linden hopes the increased presence will help cut down on the danger.
"It's the reason we're trying to pull impaired drivers off the road, because they're a danger to themselves and to everybody else," he says.
The enforcement runs through Labor Day weekend.
