Brett Favre will dawn the green Jets uniform after the Green Bay Packers reached a deal late Wednesday to trade the quarterback to the New York team.
Farve, who announced his retirement from football at the end of last season, later changed his mind, but a battle ensued with his former team over his return.
Sports fans and insiders were aware that Favre, 38, was going to be traded sooner or later, but talks of coming to the Jets took many by surprise.
"I think it is going to be great,? says Fred Passarella, a Jets fan. ?I think it is going to inspire the whole team and the players and they need Brett Favre."
On Thursday, residents of Florham Park and Madison were excited to hear about the deal, since the Jets? new training facility will open next fall in the area.
"We had a lot of people in and out looking for Jets paraphernalia,? says Rachel Chiarolanzo, a worker at Alfred?s Sports Shop. ?It is great to have everyone wanting to have all their new Jets stuff."
While some people are happy to see Favre, the three-time MVP, transferred to New York, long-time Jets fans still mourn the loss of Chad Pennington.
"We are going to miss Chad Pennington, he is a proven winner,? says Rob Dorso, a Jets fan. ?I liked how he played, he had a good heart, but if you have a chance to get person or player like Bret Favre. You probably should do it."
