Multiple members of the Newark criminal street gang, the Famous Boyz, have been arrested, according to an announcement made this morning.
Seventeen members, associates and drug suppliers of the gang in total were arrested.
U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito says members of the gang used weapons on a regular basis and often sold heroine laced with Fentanyl, a dangerous and addictive substance that often leads to those who use it, dying.
"Much of this was laced with Fentanyl, a particularly deadly substance,” says Carpenito. “More than eight people are dying every day from drug overdose in this state from the use of Fentononyl.  During one of the wire taps in this case, agents intercepted a heroin customer complaining to one of the defendants, John Mosley, about Fenton to be contained in the heroin. This is the kind of stuff that's killing people.”
The Famous Boyz did most of their work around the area of South 18th Street and 15th Avenue, an area the gang called the 8th Block.
Departments such as the ATF, DEA, Newark Police the Essex County Prosecutor's & Sheriff’s Office, as well State Police, were all involved.
