A Broadway musical based on the songs of Britney Spears called “Once Upon A One More Time” is closing after a short run.
The musical comedy is a rewriting of famous fairy tales “Cinderella” and “Snow White,” all with a female empowerment message set to the music of Spears. However, the production, which opened in June, did not find its footing with a wide enough audience to keep going. That despite an exuberant cast, many hit songs and with performances by Justin Guarini as Prince Charming and Broadway veteran Jennifer Simard as the Wicked Stepmother.
“Once Upon A One More Time” will play its final performance at the Marquis Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 3.
And if you're heading to the Long Beach Island area now through Labor Day weekend, there's some musical theater around. “Disaster! The Musical” is a musical comedy that was a Broadway show. It features hit songs from the 1970s and is also set in the 1970s. In fact, it's set on a floating casino and disco. But when the dancing starts so does the mayhem, tidal waves and earthquake.
"Disaster!" is being performed at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven through Sept. 3. For tickets or more information, visit
