The Tony Awards telecast puts Broadway in the national spotlight – giving many of the nominated shows the opportunity to perform live for millions of TV viewers.
But this year the telecast is thrown into uncertainty because of a strike by the Writers Guild of America.
The awards are scheduled to take place on June 11.
This year, they will be broadcast for the first time from the historic United Palace in Washington Heights. But the event is in jeopardy amid the possibility of striking writers picketing the event.
