A 20-foot minke whale that washed up at the Leonardo Marina in Middletown likely died from a disease, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
The whale washed up at the Shore earlier this week.
Officials say the male whale had “bloody froth in the lungs and signs of infectious disease in multiple organs.” No food was found in the whale’s GI tract, according to the Marine Stranding Center.
Samples will be collected and tested to determine exactly how the whale died.
This is the 15th whale to die at the Jersey Shore since December.
