Grief counselors are available today at Union High School following the death of a student – killed in a car crash over the weekend.
According to officials, Anthony Steitz, 17, of Union, was driving a Toyota on I-78 when his car went off the road and struck several trees.
Officials say Steitz was transported to Morristown Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
There were no other passengers in the car or vehicles involved in the crash.
Steitz had just been named Battalion Commander of the Junior ROTC for his senior year, and was on his way back from the banquet in Scotch Plains when the accident happened.
Union High School's football team posted on Twitter to remember him, saying, "Sending thoughts and prayers to this young man's family, friends, the Union HS JROTC family and our entire school community. RIP Anthony Steitz.
