Officials: Police fatally shoot pit bull that severely injured toddler in East Orange

A toddler from East Orange is in the hospital after a dog attack Wednesday night, according to city officials.

Several others were injured in the incident.

The attack happened at a house along Tremont Avenue near Brookwood Street just after 7 p.m.

City officials say the young pit bull escaped from his cage and injured four people, including the toddler, two older children and a man.

East Orange police shot and killed the dog upon arriving to the scene.

All four people were taken to the hospital and the 22-month-old boy underwent emergency surgery for severe facial injuries.
