A multiple car crash sent a van into a home and shut down portions of Route 4 in Teaneck early Sunday.
The incident happened at the intersection of North Wilson Avenue and Route 4 West.
During the crash, a van with New York license plates flew into a house in Bergen County and caught fire.
Homeowners say the incident happened around 5 a.m. They say some damage was done to the house, but the van was stopped by a brick wall.
The homeowners say three people were inside the home at the time, but none of them suffered any injuries from the incident.
Renee Harriogt fell asleep on her couch, which is up against the wall the van crashed into. She credits a wheelchair ramp in the front of the home as a buffer from keeping the van from smashing into the inside of the home.
"It's extremely frightening and scary," Harriogt says. "I'm still shaken up."
Harriogt says there is some damage to the home and foundation but says inspectors told her it is structurally sound. She also says it appears the driver of the van was able to walk from the scene without injury.
Harriogt says her mother died from COVID-19 earlier this year and her ashes were next to her in the living room just feet away from where the van nearly entered her home. She tells News 12 that her mother was looking over her.
Two other vehicles were also involved in the accident, including a Jeep and a sedan.
The conditions of the people in those two vehicles is still unknown.
Route 4 West was closed from Bell Avenue through River Road as the accident was cleared. It has since reopened.
