A 23-year-old man was killed and two other men were injured in Paterson’s fourth deadly shooting in three days.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office says a 23-year-old Riverdale man was killed. They also say a 19-year-old man from Elmwood Park is in critical condition. A 52-year-old man from Paterson is in stable condition.
The shooting happened Tuesday evening near Rosa Parks Boulevard and Broadway.
This is the fourth person killed by gun violence in the city since Sunday. It comes just days after New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin said violence in Paterson is going down.
“Matthew Platkin has no idea,” says Paterson City Council Member Mike Jackson.
Jackson’s cousin, 22-year-old Mary Taylor, was killed in a shooting Sunday night.
“We have shootings not being reported,” Jackson says.
Mayor Andre Sayegh is asking for an emergency meeting with the Attorney General's Office. Platkin’s office recently took over the Paterson Police Department.
“I met with the officer in charge this morning,” Sayegh says.
Paterson officials say that people in the city fear the violence will get worse.
“People are afraid,” says City Council President Alex Mendez.
No arrests have been made in any of the four shootings. Anyone who might have information is urged to contact the prosecutor’s office at 1-877-370-PCPO or tips@passaiccountynj.org.
