Three people were killed due to gun violence in Paterson on Sunday, according to authorities.
In one of those incidents, a woman in her 20s was the victim of a drive-by shooting. It happened along Van Houten at the corner of Cianci Street at 9:30 p.m.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Mary Taylor. News 12 has learned she lived on Van Houten Street, right near where she was killed.
Her friends say she was getting out of a white Hyundai Sonata and was about to walk across the street to her home when she was shot in the head.
Witnesses say they heard several rounds fired off. News 12 crews could see several bullet holes in cars in the area and at the liquor store at the corner.
One neighbor says she heard 10 to 12 shots.
“It was really, really bad. I never saw anything like that before,” says Melany Guzman.
Guzman was in her home and walked outside at the time of the shooting to see Taylor on the ground.
Two men were seen firing from a red Hyundai, which was eventually found abandoned along North Seventh Street.
Taylor is believed to have been an innocent bystander, not the target of the shooting.
No arrests have currently been made.
