Three people were hurt in a shooting on Salem Avenue in Elizabeth, according to officials.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on Monday.
Officials say that a man, woman and young child were riding in a car that was struck by gunfire. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Officials say that according to witnesses, a black sedan was seen fleeing the scene.
Neighbors say that they are concerned about the increase in illegal activities in the area.
"The crime just came in the last few years and it seems like there is nothing being done about it...all day, every day," one resident said.
That resident says there has been an increase in drug activity in the neighborhood.
The suspect or suspects involved in the shooting remain on the loose.
